CROW is a German artist born in 1970. As a musician he toured many countries before devoting himself to contemporary visual art and moving to Shanghai and Tokyo.
In 2020, the painter, musician, photographer, performance artist and writer moves back to Germany, where he works in his studios in Bamberg and Berlin. During his time in Asia, he created large-scale paintings and drawings, photographs and installations that explore the human condition.
CROW's paintings thrive on the devotional power of melancholy and other hidden emotions. He believes that great art requires great suffering and that to enjoy art is to enjoy suffering. His style is characterised by a harmonious use of figurative elements and very strong brushstrokes on several levels. He deconstructs his subject and emphasises its three-dimensional qualities.
He also uses the same technique in his photographs, which allow a smooth transition into his mixed media works, and the hidden secrets revealed in the prints become impressive structures in the images to reconstruct something in its visibility.
CROW's installations stage a metamorphic search for human development in its roots and reflect its existence today. His installations open up a field of vision for mankind's dwindling connection to nature and the associated carelessness with our livelihood. In impressive multimedia performances, CROW combines his own poetry of texts, readings and music determined by random processes.
In 2019 he will publish the book "Tales of Dying Butterflies" and in 2024 the book "COU-RAGE - Stories of good people", which is nominated for the German Book Prize 2024.
CROW's works are represented in numerous private collections and museums.
